About

The NYChillharmonic has been DIY touring as a large ensemble for the last decade.

Awards, prizes and grants include The Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award in 2014 and 2018. The ASCAP Phoebe Jacobs Prize in 2016. Brooklyn Magazine’s annual ‘30 under 30’ list in 2018, and a South Arts Jazz Road Touring Grant in 2022.

The NYChillharmonic's debut album '1' was released in 2016, and became one of Bandcamp’s best-selling big band records. Since then, the band has been presenting original work at major festivals including Moers Festival, Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival, Take the A-Train Festival in Austria, So What’ Next? in the Netherlands, Perth and Brisbane International Jazz Festivals, Joshua Tree Music Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Lakefront Music Fest, The International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Nublu Jazz Festival, CU Jazz Fest, and Ottawa and Montreal International Jazz Festivals. The band notably performed at The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center as well as ASCAP’s ‘Songwriters: the Next Generation’ showcase at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

When touring internationally or far from the east coast, only the rhythm section will travel and musicians will be hired locally in each tour stop to fill out the remainder of the ensemble. This method of touring requires the hiring of sometimes over 100 musicians per run. To date, thousands of musicians have performed the music of The NYChillharmonic music globally.

Most recently, NYChillharmonic pieces have been recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra in CZ. Two singles have been released to date, and a forthcoming orchestral/big band album is on the way.
